ARTIST STATEMENT
Art is how I focus, how I feel, and how I connect with other people. It gives me an outlet for emotions I would otherwise struggle to express, and the act of making something—physically and mentally—is itself a way of finding calm. My work is an attempt to give form to what I see in my mind's eye: my interpretation of the world and my contribution to the beauty that exists around us.
I draw my inspiration primarily from nature—its colors, forms, and the way light moves through flowers and landscapes. The color relationships I find there are endlessly exciting to me. I've also come to appreciate architecture and the role it plays in our lives. In my painting practice, I work primarily in oils on canvas, starting not from what's in front of me but from an internal vision. From there, I develop sketches and build a color palette before picking up a brush.
There is still so much I want to explore: new mediums, new subject matter, new ways of seeing, and that sense of possibility is what keeps driving my work forward.
